T.H.E. BRAIN TRUST Announces Creation of
Tim & Tom Gullikson Foundation Social Services Coordinator
The Board members of The Healing Exchange BRAIN TRUST are thrilled to announce the creation of The Tim & Tom Gullikson Foundation Social Services Coordinator position. Made possible by a generous grant from The Tim & Tom Gullikson Foundation (TTGF), the social services coordinator will enable T.H.E. BRAIN TRUST (TBT), an Internet-based organization at www.braintrust.org, to expand and enhance direct services to brain tumor patients/survivors and family members.
Dedicated to helping people communicate about brain tumors and related conditions via the Internet, Braintrust.org is a consumer driven 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Promoting a healing exchange of information and support, the organization provides online support groups currently serving over 2200 email subscribers daily in the global brain tumor community. A subscription may represent an individual, family or extended family, medical facility, or research institution. The email messages TBT distributes reach far beyond the initial recipients.
Braintrust.org has a volunteer Board of Directors, presently comprised entirely of brain tumor or cancer survivors. The TTGF Social Services Coordinator will assist the Board and other volunteers with the challenges of serving the community to which so many of them ultimately belong. The establishment of the TTGF social services position will strengthen T.H.E. BRAIN TRUST by providing support for the volunteer corps and coordinating activities conducted by more than 175 individuals worldwide.
Braintrust.org has a strong kinship with TTGF, as the first four recipients of the Tim Gullikson Spirit Award (given to honor the generous and fighting spirit of a trailblazing brain tumor survivor, Tim Gullikson) are all community members of The Healing Exchange BRAIN TRUST. Inaugural recipient David M. Bailey '99 and Samantha Scolamiero '00 are current Braintrust.org board members. Mary Lowe '01, Sheryl Shetsky '02 are active members of the T.H.E. BRAIN TRUST community and have worked diligently to help the organization flourish. They have all participated regularly online and offline over the last decade. These patient/survivors whom TTGF has recognized as leaders in the brain tumor community embrace, value and continue to build T.H.E. BRAIN TRUST as an essential resource for assisting other brain tumor patients, survivors, families, health professionals, researchers and ultimately, the recipients themselves.
The Tim & Tom Gullikson Foundation was founded in 1995 by former tennis professionals Tim and Tom Gullikson and their families after Tim was diagnosed with brain tumors. The mission of the Foundation is to assist brain tumor patients and their families in managing the physical, emotional and social challenges presented by the illness. It does so by funding care and support programs of organizations with similar missions, and through its College Scholarship Program. The Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation run by an all-volunteer Board of professionals from sports, business, law, entertainment and journalism. For more information, contact the Foundation at 1-888-GULLIKSON.
