"Brain
TumorResearch/Support" BRAINTMR@mitvma.mit.edu
Better know as "The
"BRAINTMR Mailing List" , created May 1993 by: Samantha
J. Scolamiero
The BRAINTMR list is a
forum to discuss topics related to all types of brain tumors whether labeled
"benign" or "malignant." Information and experience is shared among
brain tumor patients, their families & supporters, all kinds of concerned medical and
allied health professionals**, medical educators, and researchers who study brain tumor
growth or treatment.
BRAINTMR is open to all and is moderated by the listowner, not edited. There is no
charge for this service.
(Interested health
professionals include: neurosurgeons, nurses, social workers, primary care physicians,
pathologists, oncologists, psychologists, rehabilitation therapists etc.)
Here are just a
few examples of how BRAINTMR is used:
 |
For patients and
families dealing with the same tumor type to "meet"
|
 |
To find out WHO is doing
WHAT brain tumor research
|
 |
To address emotional
aspects of patients' brain tumor treatment
|
 |
To discuss the impact of
brain tumors on individuals, society and the practice of medicine
|
 |
To discuss other
intracranial malformations (such as the AVM)
|
BRAINTMR was initiated in October 1992 by Samantha J. Scolamiero, a brain tumor
survivor. It came on-line May 15, 1993. There are about 1000 active subscriptions from six
continents on the list. These include several redistribution lists and individual
subscriptions for entire research organizations and brain tumor foundations. There are on
average 50-100 messages per day. Many people generously offer their expertise and
experiences to provide information and support. Anyone willing to talk about brain tumors
is welcome to expand our discussions.
If you have questions
please do not hesitate to contact a BRAINTMR
Subscription Manager directly.
The BRAINTMR list has been declared a
KEY RESOURCE for
Neurosurgery on the Internet.

Please Note: Volunteers who run the ancillary support services for the BRAINTMR
mailing list (and associated lists) are builders of The Healing Exchange BRAIN TRUST
which may provide them with training, equipment, or other resources.
T.H.E. BRAIN TRUST is established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization in the U.S. and requires funding.
Securing financial
support for T.H.E. BRAIN TRUST [501(c)(3) nonprofit] is essential to facilitate use of
the BRAINTMR list and is urgently needed to make the necessary improvements in
service. Hundreds of people have testified to the dramatic impact this resource has had on
their lives. Thousands have participated.
We are an essential service provided to the public for FREE. If you can help with a
donation of any size, would like to organize a fundraiser, or can provide a lead to a
