Depression is a very real obstacle. It takes a positive, affirmative effort to get better. I would encourage her to pursue getting a handle on how she feels. Recovering from a brain tumor is hard enough. Doing it while depressed is nearly impossible.
Many of us have dealt with, or are dealing with, the post-operative problems you describe. It often takes a conscious effort to compensate for them. Sometimes the problems just fade away. Sometimes you can hasten their departure.
Getting a brain tumor, especially at such a young age, is definitely bad luck. The trick is to overcome the deficits and get back to life. Easier said than done, but your daughter will find many examples of people overcoming things much worse. I found therapy frustratingly slow, but it seems to be working. Counseling is even harder to credit with progress.
Please tell her good luck and to write me or someone else any time. In these tumor forums she is likely to meet someone with whom she can relate, someone who has experienced a similar tumor.
