I am teary-eyed reading all of these postings. My mom, at the age of 62, was diagnosed with an anaplastic oligo in January of this year, 3 weeks after my wedding. She had weakness on her left side, leading everyone to believe it was a stroke. When I saw the mass on the MRI film I was nauseous. Her tumor is grade 2.5-3 and is mostly contained in the motor control area of the right hemisphere with an adjacent spot in the genu of the corpus callosum. After biopsy she entered an experimental study that has taken her through three rounds of chemo with minimal side-effects and great results. The main tumor was 3cm to begin with and now is less than 1cm. The corpus callosum site is not repsonding as well so they have decided to halt the 4th round of chemo and move to radiation which she will most likely begin next week. It is such an emotional roller coaster....living from MRI to MRI as I guess we will do for the duration. We feel very fortunate that we live in Phoenix and have Barrows Neurological Institute available to us; a world renowned facility. We have not spoken of prognosis and won't even venture down that path as we are focused on healing only. Faith and dtermination combined with conventional and non-conventional treatment can overcome any ailment. I am always seeking support and willing to give it. Feel free to reply and I will add all of you and your loved ones to our prayer list.
