My husband was diagnosed with a 'mixed' oligo in l993. Did extremely well after the operation, but had no follow up treatment. The tumor returned 9 months later. Our oncologist found the Cairncross study in Canada and she followed that protocol of PVC, which was six rounds of treatment, 6 weeks each. This was followed by 6 weeks of daily radiation. He was able to work every day, although he did have some problems with engineering calculations. The doctors didn't know if this was from the operation, radiation or chemo. We had 8 full years of family life. He was monitored by MRI's. Last Feb. something showed up, which required further testing. In November it was apparent that the tumor did recur. He was operated on at Mass General Jan. 3lst and was home 3 days later! After the head healed, he started on Temodar. He has completed 3 rounds and is scheduled to start the fourth. I presume you have been on the internet and found all the latest trials and treatments. All the Brain Tumor organizations have tons of info. Finding other people, though, is most comforting. Your boyfriend has to maintain a positive attitude. And you, too, need to keep your spirits up. Good luck.
