My boyfriend has been recently dealing with this exact kind of tumor Anaplastic Oligodendroglioma, with a grade of 2.5-3. He found out about it, after months and months of constant, painful headaches, finally letting me "bully" him into getting a cat scan. They saw a mass on the scan, and less than 2 weeks later had surgery. He had surgery the 26th of april 2001, doing EXTREMELY well(no seizures or paralysis, has been fishing 2*'s and id taking little to none pain medication) so far and now is waiting for his scar to heal, so he can begin some kind of treatment. He is waiting to find out if he will be participating in a experiment(phase 3) protocol, which he would either do only radiation treatment, or a chemo+radiation combo treatment. I am very scared, as this tumor is dangerous and pretty much fatal. Is there anyone out there who has any wise words for this situation? His neurosurgeon told me(without my boyfriend hearing) that the median age of surivial with this kind of tumor is 8 years....making me a "widow" possibly by the time i'm 30 years old. I know the doctor has to be pessimistic, but can anyone give me any info relating to their experience.thank you.
